Left Florida and drove through Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Alabama got the short end of the Gulf coastline stick so it was a quick drive! Spent the night in Biloxi, Mississippi at a RV park across from a casino. Went to the casino, lost $15 in 15 minutes and called it a night. Next stop was in Lafayette, Louisiana. I 10 from Baton Rouge west was awful, like driving on rumble strips. Spent 2 nights at a park with a pretty lake on one side and I10 on the other. Nice to take a day off from driving!
Panhandle Gem
Florida is a really big state! When you grow up in New England, you be drive to and through all six states in about 5 hours. In Florida five hours doesn’t get you very far, especially in the panhandle. We made two stops on the way west in northern
Florida , both are state parks. The first, Falling Waters State in Chipley. It a small, rustic park in the woods (thinned out considerably by Hurricane Michael).
The second was recommended to us by our neighbors at our first RV park in Oct , Henderson Beach State Park in Destin. It is a one mile stretch of beautiful white sand beach nestled in a bustling beach town. The sites are private and well maintained. The beach is a short walk down a concrete path to a boardwalk over the dunes. The beach is one of the nicest we have visited and the sand is soft and pure white. Words don’t do it justice, so take a look.
Take a Left
We are working our way out of Florida after 2 great months. Today we made our final trip on I 75 and won’t miss that road. We took a left on I 10 west and are in the panhandle for a few days. By Mid March we will take I 10 to Tucson, Arizona!
We are north of the coast today but the damage from Hurricane Michael is very evident. Trees are down everywhere and the State Park we are spending the night at has tree damage and washed out trails. Falling Waters State Park is still a nice , small park in the woods with a small lake. Tomorrow we head a bit farther west to Destin Beach, Florida
Heading North
We have been in Florida since the end of October. We have stayed at 7 different RV resorts, spent time with Deb’s Dad then her Mom, walked on the beach, been hot and cold and are enjoying all of it!
Time to head out of Florida but not without a visit to the panhandle! Here are a few pics of our last week. Enjoy!
Driving Lessons
We took a driving lesson from Lazy Days RV Center. Derick has been driving already but Deb hasn’t gotten behind the wheel. It included classroom instruction and actual behind the wheel time. Deb is ready to give it a try on the road but not in the crazy traffic of Florida! Watch out Texas!
New Year, New Travels
Happy New Year! 2019 promises to be full of adventure. We will be leaving Florida soon and heading to Texas! We will brave the cold and fly back north to visit our sons and spend a few days in our old neighborhood . When we go back to Texas we will heading south along the Gulf coast and stop just short of Mexico in Port Isabel near South Padre Island for February. Then off to Arizona for March. Need to be back in Vermont by May to welcome a new grand baby and plan our next adventure. Hope you will follow along.
Some photos of our December in Port Charlotte.
‘‘Tis the Season”
We are still at it!
It has been awhile since our last post. We got our rig back and she looks brand new again. We are at the Myakka River Motorcoach Resort for the entire month of December. We are one of four from Vermont here, we are representing! Nice place and close to Deb’s Dad so lots of family time. The warm weather doesn’t seem Christmassy to us Vermonters but we have decorated the rig.
Rig in the Shop
If you follow Facebook you know our rig is in the shop for a few outside issues. Derick is a great driver I am not a great “stand outside and help him park” person. Suffice it to say that I have learned to look up when telling him to back up and to not stand only on one side of the rig! Hopefully all issues can be fixed and we should be back in the rig on Saturday!
We are on left. It seems so big but is puny by comparison !
Yummy lunch

Great lunch at Little Bar Restaurant inGoodland, Florida. Started with stone crabs fresh off the boat outside!
